I stumbled upon a really amazing quote today that really resonated with me.
“You have the need and the right to spend part of your life caring for your soul. It is not easy. You have to resist the demands of the work-oriented, often defensive, element in your psyche that measures life only in terms of output – how much you produce – not in terms of the quality of your life experiences.
To be a soulful person means to go against all the pervasive, prove-yourself values of our culture and instead treasure what is unique and internal and valuable in yourself and your own personal evolution.”
– Jean Shinoda Bolean
Wow.
This hit me really deep.
I had to learn this lesson the hard way.
I took the last year off from work (or at least off from the enormous pressure of hustling and grinding) and I’ve just been doing things part time while I nourish my soul back up and re-discover who I am when I’m not driving myself 1,000 miles an hour in one focused aim and direction.
Burnout is real folks.
Work hard to excel and be excellent. But also be careful.
The felt-sense of your life is more important than the output it produces.
